Ep011: Charlie McGing | Finding The Energy To Create

In today’s episode I’m interviewing my good friend Charlie Mcging, he’s a personal fitness and nutrition coach and runs an awesome youtube channel that’s packed full of incredible advice to get you on the right track with your health, strength, energy and focus.

Originally from London, Charlie has spent the last few years in Sheffield studying bio medical engineering, all the while running his business as a personal trainer. He now lives in Barcelona and most recently lived here in Krakow for a month. I’ve never met anyone quite as committed to nutrition and what foods he consumes and how he uses that energy to achieve big gym goals as him. So while he was here I was keen to soak up as much knowledge as I could from someone who is effectively a master of getting the body to work optimally.

We’re going to be talking about;

Establishing your energy baseline and improving it by fuelling your body with the right nutrition and supplements, then purposefully stressing your body with exercise while repairing it with the right kind of recovery.

We’re also chatting about putting priorities in place by using something called the life quadrant exercise and focussing on what gives you the most energy to feed all the other quadrants.

Also an important topic; motivation vs commitment. How your first attempts at something always feels like a chore and what we can do to move forward instead of waiting for motivation to show up.

We’re going to be chatting about the importance of finding good mentors and coaches. What it means to shave hours, days, months and even years off of your education and development.

Charlie is going to be explaining everything from eating healthy greens, reishi mushrooms, ginseng, pu-erh and green teas, plus he’s giving away one of the fitness industries best kept secrets and most under used pieces of advice, so enjoy this one with Charlie Mcging.

So that was a sweet episode, I love chatting about motivation and how unimportant it is to making progress. I find a lot of creative people struggle with finding motivation when trying to create something on demand. Doing what Charlie talks about here will allow you to make a start and then find motivation in the momentum of positive reinforcement when you see some progress in your development. Again he recommends starting out small, but starting is the most important thing to develop discipline and habits in any skill of any mastery.

Hydration, most people don’t acknowledge the importance of drinking a few litres of water everyday to increase focus, Charlie gives us the facts and science behind what’s happening when we drink lots of water and also tips on teas that we can add to further improve our brains ability. He also shared some great advice on natural supplements, something I’ve been experimenting a lot with lately. Reishi mushrooms, ginseng and guto kola, all in my current stack and I’m seeing an improvement in many areas.

I’m glad I was able to make this episode, I’m sure there’s a lot of things to help improve your energy baseline and give you more ability and focus when it comes to all areas of your life whether that be in business, work, relationships or creativity.
